Our Connection With God (Blog Series) – Part 5

… Continued

“O Shvetaketu! If someone cuts a chunk of this tree from the bottom then this tree would only leak the liquid but it will still stay alive. If someone cuts a chunk of this tree from the middle then also this tree would only leak the liquid but it will still stay alive. If someone cuts a chunk of this tree from the top then also this tree would only leak the liquid but it will still stay alive. This tree is full of soul and is standing tall consuming the ground water”.

“If the soul leaves a branch of this tree then that branch will dry out. If the soul leaves another branch of this tree then that branch will also dry out. Similarly, if the soul leaves the whole tree then the whole tree will dry out.”

“Similarly O Shvetaketu! Know that when the soul leaves the body the body dies but the soul itself does not die. That subtle formless existence is the soul of all these things. That formless existence is the truth, that is the soul and O Shvetaketu! You are that!”

Having heard this Shvetaketu had a further doubt that how come this world made up of very gross material in name and form, can come into being from the subtle and formless existence?

So he asked his father Aaruni “O Father, please explain it to me again”. Aaruni said “ Ok Shvetaketu, I will explain it to you again”.
“Go and get a fruit of the banyan tree” asked Aaruni.
“Here it is, Father” said Shvetaketu.
“Now break it” asked Aaruni.
“Done, Father”.
“Now what do you see inside?” asked Aaruni.
“I see a few granular seeds”.
“Now break each of them” asked Aaruni.
“”Done, Father”.
“Now what do you see inside of them?” asked Aaruni.
“Nothing, Father”.

“O Shvetaketu! That subtlety of the thing inside the seeds which you can not see, from that subtlety this whole banyan tree has got born! That subtle formless existence is the soul of all these things. That formless existence is the truth, that is the soul and O Shvetaketu! You are that!”

Having heard this Shvetaketu had a doubt that if that existence is the cause of this world then how come we do not perceive it?
